Magic Movement™ is a program created by Jenna Hann for children aged 1 - 3 years old. It teaches developmental skills to children through movement, song, dance, play and storytelling, in an environment supported by a special adult in their lives (often a parent). The program provides a fun and nurturing environment designed to help children learn and develop, and strengthen both their independence and their relationship with their adult. The program is designed with the concepts of the 'circle of security' in mind as well as  concepts regarding early childhood development and education.

About Magic Movement

Who can run the program?

The Magic Movement program is designed to be run is settings with small groups of children such as dance schools, play groups, day care or preschools. It is recommended that each child participant has an adult (such as a parent) participate in the program with them but activities can be adapted to a ratio of one adult to 3 children (for example in a childcare setting).
It is recommended that the program leader have experience with working with young children (educator, teacher, childminder etc.). Although the program was originally developed for use in a dance school, no dance knowledge or experience is needed as this is not the focus of the program.
Smaller groups of approximately 6 children is recommended but the program can be adapted for larger or smaller groups.

What is the format of the program?

The entire Magic Movement Program has 9 topics which are each delivered over 5 weeks. This gives you 45 weeks worth of material over the year. Each class runs for 45 minutes but could be extended or reduced to meet the groups needs.

The following topics are covered:

  1. On The Farm

  2. Under The Sea

  3. Our Body

  4. Colours and Shapes

  5. At The Zoo

  6. Teddy Bear's Picnic

  7. Move with Me (sports and recreation)

  8. Textures and Feelings

  9. In the Sky

Each topic runs for 5 weeks. The first 2 weeks introduce the topic and are very similar (sometimes identical) lesson plans. The next 2 weeks follow a story book and do activities relating to the story. The final week revisits the participant's favourite activities from the previous 4 weeks.

Do I have to purchase or do the entire program?

No. Each individual topic can be purchased separately. Even though each topic is designed to be delivered over 5 weeks, this could quite easily be extended. Young children thrive on familiarity and repetition.
However it is recommended that, to get the most out of the program, children complete all 9 topics (45 minute class, once a week, over 45 weeks).

What am I buying?

Each topic can be purchased individually, or the entire program can be purchased at a bulk discount price. Both individual topics and the entire program have the option to purchase with or without props.

Each topic provides:

  1. a minimum of 3 complete, different lesson plans, for 45 minutes in length

  2. detailed explanation of the learning outcomes for each activity and for the program and topic themselves

  3. a list of recommended props, substitutes and where to buy

  4. tips and ideas for program delivery including common considerations of individual needs

  5. a custom designed story book for week 3 & 4 of the topic

  6. picture cards to show children the next activity

  7. a suggested playlist of songs (Spotify recommended)

  8. suggestions for adapting program to varied group sizes and situations

  9. ongoing support if needed via email or phone

Please note that resources are sent via email after purchase and need to be printed (lamination of picture cards recommended).

Do I need to buy the props?

Each topic lists a variety of props as well as suggestions for alternative objects that can be used. Props are a fantastic way for children to learn and engage and every topic uses props (some more than others). We have made it easy for you by offering a package of props for each topic that caters for delivery to 6 children. We can also offer individually packaged prop deals based on the number of students you need to cater for. Please contact us and we can work out some pricing.
You do not need to purchase the props from us. These items are chosen because they are mostly easy to find at bargain shops and even supermarkets. You can use the lists provided to purchase your own props locally.
